Keeping An Open Mind

You've seen it in Bride's magazine or on the Knot website or on Pinterest ... and you love it!
You just know that that dress is THE ONE you want to wear on your wedding day.  Now you
begin the search, calling every bridal shop within a 50 mile radius trying to track down "that dress",  because you absolutely must find it to see and try on.  Here are a few things to consider:

1.   What is the price for this dress?

Weddings are costly and  there is a reason you have a budget.  It is certainly frustrating to
fall in love with a wedding dress that doesn't work within your budget range. Have you
considered that it may be possible to find something very similar, but with a more
agreeable price tag?  Be sure to discuss limitations with your bridal consultant.

2.   What style dress will be most flattering on you?

Unless photographed on a plus-size model, most wedding dresses are fitted on models             who are size 6 or 8 and taller than 5'8", so keep in mind what style may work best for your         height and body type. A-line and drop-waist fit n' flair gowns look great on most brides.               Mermaid and trumpet styles are often more flattering on taller brides, and fitted-waist                   ballgowns work best with longer torsos.  No set rules here, just guidelines. We                     recommend you try on different styles to narrow down what you love best.

3.   Are you willing to order the dress sight-unseen if you can't find it to see and try on?

Bridal boutiques cannot possibly carry every style for each of their designer lines, so it may
not be possible to see the dress you are interested in.  However, if you can find a dress
similar in style by the same designer, that may be all you need to help you to make the
commitment, or on the other hand, rule it out completely.

4.   Does the style of the dress match with your overall vision or venue?

Depending on where and what time of year your wedding will be held, you may want to consider a lighter fabric like chiffon, lace or taffeta for an outdoor summer event, or more formal satin or heavily beaded style for a church or indoor winter wedding.  Again, no rules, just suggestions.

All we are saying here is this: although you may have fallen in love with the idea of a particular wedding gown, you might do well to keep an open mind when it comes to considering other options. We receive calls daily from brides inquiring as to whether we have a specific wedding gown in stock, and if we do not, the response is often "Okay, thanks". Click.  However, it is not unusual for a bride who is set on a particular bridal gown that we do have on the rack, to come in for her appointment and choose to order something very different once she has tried other styles.

In essence, when you try on bridal gowns, you will know what makes you feel beautiful and, typically we too will know ... once we see your reaction in the mirror.  There will be no doubt in your mind that you have found "THE ONE", and how you look on your wedding day will reflect your happiness.
